LESSON I PISTOL KNOWLEDGE AND SAFE GUN HANDLING
The goal of the Basic Pistol Shooting Course.
Identify the principal parts of a pistol, types of pistol action single, double for revolvers, and semi automatic pistols.
Demonstrate how they function and how to load each with dummy ammunition.
Demonstrate how to handle a pistol in a safe manner.
Demonstrate unloading of a revolver and semi-automatic pistols.
Conduct a safe pistol handling practical exercise. (de-cocking the revolver and semiautomatic).
Explain The 3 NRA rules for safe gun handling Using the NRA gun safety brochure.
Conduct a safe pistol handling practical exercise.

LESSON II AMMUNITION KNOWLEDGE  /  FUNDAMENTALS OF PISTOL SHOOTING
Ammunition components and types.
The firing sequence of a cartridge.
Ammunition identification, storage procedures, and 3 types of malfunctions.
Review of the 3 NRA rules for safe gun handling.
Eye dominance in beginning pistol shooters with an eye dominance exercise.
The bench rest position with a demonstration in class.
The two-handed standing position with a demonstration in class.
The two handed grip with a demonstration and a practical exercise.
The five fundamentals of pistol shooting.
LESSON III  FIRING THE FIRST SHOTS
Introduction of range personnel, range orientation and layout.
Basic range safety procedures, range commands, and shooting safety rules.
Coach and Pupil method and Ball and Dummy Technique.
Basic range safety procedures, range commands, and shooting safety rules.
Demonstrate to safely assume the two-handed bench rest and standing position.
Conduct a dry fire practical exercise on the range using finger gun and dry firing an unloaded gun.
Safely shoot a pistol from the bench rest position, Using the fundamentals of pistol shooting, Safely Safely shoot a pistol from the two handed standing position at a target on the range.
LESSON IV SCORING TARGETS / SELECTING AND MAINTAINING A PISTOL
Properly score Targets the NRA way
Basic guidelines for selecting and purchasing a pistol.
Caring for the pistol and Identify the materials needed to clean a pistol.
Demonstration how to clean a pistol safely. Student practical exercise in gun cleaning.
LESSON V  CONTINUED OPPORTUNITIES FOR SKILL DEVELOPMENT
Improving your shooting skills through the Winchester  NRA Marksman Program.
Training opportunities and competitive shooting.
NRA Programs, history and NRA Benefits of Membership.
Pistol Examination Firing Test and Course Conclusion.
