                                       M-2 QUESTIONS  SUPPLEMENTAL SHEETS

Read and study the below operations. A description of the process is contained in the FM for the M-2 MACHINEGUN. It is on the INTERNET ALSO.
After you have an understanding of it, fill in the blanks with out referring to the text. If you can do this, then you know the weapon.
If you can’t,  go back and re-read it until you understand the weapon.

1. Explain,  using proper terminology of weapons, the two types of
Extraction in one short sentence each.

A.  The first extractor removes the CARTRIDGE from the BELT and  is located  on the BOLT    ASSEMBLY.

B.  The second extractor removes the EXPENDED  C________________  from the C_____________ with the "T"  S________ of the B__________.


2. Explain,  using proper terminology of weapons,  the two types of
Ejection        in one short sentence each.

A. The first primary ejector is the N___________    R____________.

B. The second ejector is the  L________   R_________   E_________________ located on the A___________  on the B__________.

3.Explain in detail, using proper terminology of weapons, the procedures for proper Setting of Head space:

A.  Clear the Gun and screw barrel into the B_______   E____________________ and back it off _____ clicks then try and turn barrel out. Charge the gun.

B.  Pull back on the charging handle till you can see the N_____________ on the barrel and insert the G____ end of the head space gage in the _T_  ________ of the bolt. It did not go in. Pull back on the charging handle and turn barrel cc 1 click.

C.  Pull back on the charging handle till you can see the N _____________ on the barrel and insert the G_________ end of the head space gage in the  "T" ________ of the bolt. It went in.

D.  If it does not go in, back out the barrel _____ clicks and re check as above until  the ___ end of the gage goes in and the N_  G___ end does not go in. THEN TRY TO TURN BARREL IT SHOULD NOT TURN

E. The maximum numbers of clicks the barrel may be screwed out is __________.from initial 2. 

4.  Setting Timing:

A.  Clear gun and ensure the B________ is in the forward position. Charge gun.

B. Pull the charging handle back enough to insert the F_______ G______of the timing gage with the bevel towards the B___________ then Remove the B _______   P__________.

C.  Turn the timing nut about 10-12 clicks   C _____________ (direction).
DO NOT TURN DOWN SO MUCH AS TO REMOVE THE NUT!

D.  Replace the B________  P_________ and try to fire the gun.

E. If it does not fire, remove the F_____ G_____ and turn the timing nut  ______ click (s) and repeat the process till it does fire. When it firers turn the timing nut ____ click (s) and recheck the timing.
                                                                                                                                              
5.  How does the M-2 machine gun lock and unlock. Use proper weapon parts names in the blanks to describe the process.

A.  Locking:

1. Ammunition is placed on the F________ way of the gun and the cover closed. The gun is charged.

2. On the forward movement of the bolt assembly the B________  L_________ is made to rise up into the bolt assembly bottom recess by the R___________ on the bottom of the receiver locking the bolt with the barrel E_______________.

B. Unlocking:

1. When the cartridge is fired  R_______ action causes the locked barrel, barrel extension and B_________ to move rear ward.

2.  The barrel EX__________ tang which is connected to the B__________ assembly pushes it rear ward forcing the DE____________ of the BU________ assembly into the pin of the BR_______ LO________ forcing it down unlocking the bolt from the barrel EX__________.
