CYCLE OF FUNCTIONING

FEEDING              
Magazine, Belt, Drum, Manual       (Getting the rounds into the weapon)

CHAMBERING     Getting the round into the barrel chamber and compressing the ejector and extractor

LOCKING             
Securing the bolt behind the chamber for controlled firing

FIRING                  
Detonation of the primer of the cartridge to ignite the powder in the cartridge

UNLOCKING        Opposite of locking

EXTRACTION
       Opposite of Chambering

EJECTION            
Opposite of Feeding

COCKING             
Opposite of Firing

INERTIA                M-9 9mm Pistol, M-249 5.56mm, (SAW) Machine gun M-500/590 Mosberg Shotgun.
                               (Incorporates a spring in front of the Firing Pin and normally uses a hammer to
                                strike the pin. Then the spring repositions the pin to the rear)

PERCUSSION        M-2 Machine gun M-203 Grenade launcher MK-19 MG.   (Incorporates a spring behind the
                               Firing Pin and uses a sear to release the firing pin from the cocked or seared position)


GENERAL INFORMATION

PINS, SPRINGS, DETENTS, COTER PINS,  Take on the name they operate!
Do not name a spring  a helical compression. It must have a name  like;  firing pin spring or
extractor spring, or ejector spring. Pins same way firing pin, Ejector pin, Extractor pin.

EXTRACTORS       
They are either Spring Loaded (a spring operates them) or Spring Tensioned (they are
                                 bent to give tension of themselves)

BLOW BACK         This operation omits the locking and unlocking steps in the cycle of functioning.
